SHEC Labs Launches ProShopMAX Division
SHEC Labs has commercialized its first operating division,
ProShopMAX, a computer software and hardware company applying
spin-off technologies for machine shop applications. SHEC Labs has
its own machine shop that builds parts and component for its
physics and chemistry departments in support of its hydrogen energy
research program. Tom Beck, President and Chief Executive Officer
of SHEC labs said, "We had a requirement for a Digital Read Out
(DRO) to work with position encoders of various resolutions. Both
software and hardware with this capability did not exist in the
market. SHEC developed a PC based DRO that has the capability of
using position encoders of any resolution for up to 4 axis. The DRO
can mix and match position encoder resolutions, which cannot
currently be done with any DRO on the market today. The DRO
software works with an interface box that connects to a PC based
computer via standard serial cable. The interfaced box allows
position encoders or scales to be attached and records the position
of the encoders in its internal hardware. The box then communicates
this information to the PC based software. The software is very
user friendly and easy to use."
Additional functionality has been built in to allow: Feeds and Speed
Calculations, Tap Drill Reference, Bolt Pattern and vector
calculations, and Unit Conversion. These software functions have
also been broken out to work independently of the DRO function in a
product we call the Quad Pack. The software currently runs on PC
based computers with Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP.
By using a notebook computer in the shop, you have a powerful DRO
system with superior functionality to existing DRO's on the market
today. There is also the added benefit of a software based
interface that can be updated easily. This cannot be done with
current market hardware based DROs.
