SHEC Energy incorporates in Beaumont, Texas
SHEC Energy was incorporated in Beaumont, Texas on August, 2008 to
commercialize renewable energy technologies for deployment throughout
the United States. These patented technologies have been developed by
SHEC LABS (Canada) over the span of 12 years and include the world's
most efficient solar thermal technology. The mission of SHEC Energy is
to provide the United States and the rest of the world with an
inexhaustible source of clean, renewable energy by safely and
efficiently harvesting the energy of the sun.
Solar thermal technology harnesses solar energy to provide heat. This is
different from solar panels, which convert solar energy directly into
electricity. SHEC Energy has developed the ability to concentrate
sunlight up to 16,000 times to generate a high intensity solar beam
which is collected and used with extremely high efficiency in a number
of important applications:
- Power Generation
- District and Process Heating
- Desalinization
- Alternative Fuel Production
SHEC Energy chose to incorporate in Beaumont, Texas which is considered
to be the birthplace of the modern petroleum industry, primarily
because of the progressive approach that Southeast Texas has taken
toward renewable energy. "Another key consideration", said Tom Beck,
President and CEO of SHEC Energy, "was the proximity to Lamar
University, a nationally recognized university conducting world-class
research."
Jim Rich, President of the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce said,
"We welcome SHEC Energy to the Beaumont business community. For the
last two years we have been working with an alliance of public sector
organizations, government, chambers of commerce, university and
research institutions, and Fortune 100 private sector companies to
encourage public and private renewable energy investment in the region.
SHEC Energy is exactly the type of company we have been working to
attract."
One of SHEC Energy's first U.S. projects will be a joint effort with the
City of Beaumont and Lamar University to capture the gas generated in
the Municipal Landfill and use it to produce hydrogen. Initial studies
predict that approximately 5 million kilograms of hydrogen could be
produced annually. A kilogram of hydrogen is the energy equivalent of 1
gallon of gasoline. This is enough to fuel 5,000 light duty internal
combustion engine vehicles per year or over 10,000 fuel cell vehicles
per year.
The project will also produce natural gas and electric power with its
solar concentrators. The electricity will be used to operate the
plant's various electrical components such as pumps, compressors and
control systems. During the early stages of deployment of the plant,
SHEC Energy will be selling natural gas and producing excess electrical
power and selling it into the power grid. As more and more vehicles are
configured for hydrogen use, the plant will sell less gas and produce
less power for sale in favor of producing more fuel.
